In our company, the stainless steel straws are manufactured in their rectilinear form and using the two types of stainless steel of greater quality: 304 and 316. Due to their high corrosion resistance, both are ideal for use in the food industry.
Stainless steel canes are currently the best alternative to traditional plastic straws. There are many reasons for this change, but they could be summed up in one: the need for greater sustainability.
In this sense, the figures are chilling: in the US, more than 500 million plastic straws are consumed every day, that is, a restaurant throws no less than 45,000 straws per year. And, although not so drastically, this scenario is repeated in Spain every day, thus contributing to the increasingly rapid degradation of the environment, seas and fauna.
What are the environmental advantages of stainless steel straws?
They are reusable
Obviously, because they are made of a material as resistant as steel, they will not bend or be damaged, which means that the same straw can be used for years.
These small tubes are also very practical, as they are easy to wash and can even be put in the dishwasher.
Stainless steel straws contribute to the conservation of the seas and fauna
Plastic waste makes up between 60% and 80% of all garbage found in the sea and, among this waste, it is estimated that 4% are remains of straws. Another fact to keep in mind: these tubes are part of the ten most collected waste on the beaches.
The disadvantages of not opting for stainless steel straws are inestimable for the fauna and the oceans. For example, it is known that plastic can cause serious injuries and even death by asphyxiation in a multitude of animal species. Estimates speak of one million seabirds and 100,000 mammals affected by this material. As for the water, these small tubes disintegrate and contaminate the water with toxic substances capable, among other things, of causing disease.
Stainless steel straws ensure a better use of resources
A great deal of energy and natural resources are used to make any disposable product. Thus, the choice of reusable straws leads to savings not only in money, but also in raw materials, labour, water, electricity or fuel.
